When you’ve been given faith — that the Lord your God choses to be merciful to You1 — all of the rest of the commandments follow suit. Without faith, they fall over — splat. They get spoiled. Our best efforts to prop them back up falter. It is faith in Christ alone that will make possible once again for love to come out for your neighbor. In faith, you can’t believe how awesome it is to care for them. Without faith, there is no love there between you and your neighbor. They’re a means to your selfish ends.2 May the faith of Christ, given by the Holy Spirit, be with you and all your loved ones on this Thanksgiving day.
This is the 1st commandment. To have no other gods but the Lord!
This is precisely what the Apostle Paul is getting at in this passage from the 13th chapter of Romans.
